Alberta Ferretti is well-known for her ability to craft stunning ball gowns that are never the least bit stiff, as the likes of Camilla Belle and Eva Longoria will surely attest, and her Spring/Summer 2013 collection put an under-the-sea spin on this design signature of hers. More sedate shades of oyster and sea foam green, like that displayed by Bette Franke (top right), gave way to the deep-sea turquoise and azure seen on Irina Nikolaeva (bottom left). Tilda Lindstam’s semi-sheer lace dress (centre right), in aquamarine, was the first real show-stopper, at once lighter than air and truly captivating. Nastya Kusakina (centre left) was hot on the Swede’s dainty heels, however, looking positively mermaid-like in iridescent sequins and luxurious draping. Picture a sophisticated underwater soiree attended by only the most discerning sea folk and you should have a pretty solid idea of what Alberta Ferretti Spring/Summer 2013 is all about. Don’t be fooled by the imagery, however, these are designs that will look every bit as beautiful on dry land. And in all likelihood they will be coming soon to a red carpet near you.
