Milan - RTW SS13 - Prada

City: Milan
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Spring/Summer 2013
Show: Prada

I’ll get the awkward part out of the way first: Prada Spring/Summer 2013 was, for me, a tad disappointing. Perhaps it was the geisha motif, or the overabundance of florals - I hate, hate floral anything - but the whole thing struck me as being quite unpalatable, particularly when compared to the irreverent subversiveness of Miuccia’s past few ready-to-wear collections. This is still Prada, however, so subversion is a given. For Spring/Summer 2013, Miuccia has taken the traditional notion of a geisha girl - oppressed, subservient, completely untouchable - and turned it on its head. Duchesse satin featured heavily, with deep black eventually giving way to shades of oyster and white, with Ginta Lapina’s artfully folded mini dress (centre right) being of particular prominence. The pale pink frock coat worn by Guinevere Van Seenus (top left) was a clear continuation of a shape from last season’s show, while Hedvig Palm showcased one loud fur coat (bottom centre). Fur? For spring? Yes, really. Miuccia Prada is nothing if not a rule breaker.
