Milan - RTW SS13 - Gucci

City: Milan
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Spring/Summer 2013
Show: Gucci

Following on from last season’s phenomenally popular ‘dark romance’ collection, so named on account of its jaw-droppingly beautiful gowns in hues of black and plum, Gucci design director Frida Giannini has thrown open her colour palette for Spring/Summer 2013, with autumn’s requisite obsidian making only the briefest of cameos. As soon as veteran catwalker Anja Rubik appeared in head-to-toe cerise (top centre), Giannini’s colourful mission statement became clear. As for the shapes, it was a tango between sharp, belted silhouettes - see the azure-coloured Alana Zimmer (centre left) and a chartreuse-clad Jacquelyn Jablonski (centre right) - and more flowing summer-proof gowns, with the latter just about winning. Ruffles and volume were huge news at Gucci this season also, one need only glance at the bell sleeves on Daria Strokous (top left) to deduce as much, while the tunic and wide leg trousers combination received a good airing also; see Aymeline Valade’s salmon version (top right) and Caroline Brasch Nielsen’s kelly green cover-up (centre). For evening wear, however, it was all about sophisticated monochrome, and Rubik’s low-cut closing look (bottom centre) was quintessential Gucci. Bellissima.
