Milan - RTW SS13 - Jil Sander

City: Milan
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Spring/Summer 2013
Show: Jil Sander

As the fashion world acclimatises to what is nothing short of a major cabinet reshuffle (Hedi Slimane replacing Stefano Pilati at Yves Saint Laurent; Raf Simons taking charge of the almighty beast that is Christian Dior) you would be forgiven for overlooking the news that, following Simons’ appointment at Dior and his consequent stepping down from the Jil Sander brand, control of said brand has been returned to the lady herself. What a coup! In returning to her eponymous label Ms Sander has restored its ascetic and exquisitely cut principles: hues of navy and maroon lent a sort of scholarly warmth to an otherwise monochrome palette, while a slim and elongated silhouette reigned supreme. My favourite look was that worn by Martinique-born model Sigrid Agren (top right), cigarette pants teamed with a lengthy oversized waistcoat, simply divine! Kasia Struss’ blue tunic coat was another standout (bottom centre), while an exaggerated hip added interest to Juliana Schurig’s lily white dress (top centre). Welcome home, Jil Sander.
