New York - RTW AW13 - Jason Wu
City: New York
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Autumn/Winter 2013
Show: Jason Wu
Excepting the fur-covered creations that opened the show, Autumn/Winter 2013 was one of Jason Wu’s strongest displays to date. Models walked the polished tile runway with inky blue eye make-up created by backstage pro Diane Kendal, while clothes-wise the colour palette was resolutely red, black and white. All of Wu’s design trademarks were in there - pleats, polkadots, the lot - but for Autumn/Winter 2013 the overall effect was less girl, more woman. The designer’s maturation was reflected in his choice of models, with veteran catwalkers such as Catherine McNeil and Hilary Rhoda appearing alongside the fresh new faces. It was these young whipper-snappers who stole the show, however, with the likes of Zuzanna Bijoch (bottom left) dressed in the very shade of red that Chris de Burgh once sang about. Burberry campaign stars Cara Delevingne (top left) and Jourdan Dunn (top right) were bedecked in black and white feathers, with the former almost resembling a newborn chick. This was one of only a few moments of frivolity in what was otherwise a very grown-up collection, a mood best showcased by Andreea Diaconu’s black ensemble (centre). Were it not for the furrier items - real fur freaks me out - this would have been a near-perfect display from the young Mr Wu.
