New York - RTW AW13 - Prabal Gurung

City: New York
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Autumn/Winter 2013
Show: Prabal Gurung

From dressing the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Zoe Saldana to a recent collaboration with US retail giant Target, Prabal Gurung has had a tremendously successful few years. His classy cutouts and waist-accentuating shapes are easy to recognise on both runway and red carpet, and for Autumn/Winter 2013 he gave these signatures a whole new lease of life. As soon as Ji Hye Park (top centre) stepped out in her adapted dress greens, the collection’s primary inspiration - the military - was made clear. Compared to past Prabal Gurung shows this was a strictly daywear-oriented affair, with structured jackets and tailored pants making their presence known more strongly than ever before. But this was still Prabal Gurung as opposed to, say, Helmut Lang, and even in amongst all his new military precision he still plenty of room for a show-stopping evening gown or two - see Daria Strokous (bottom centre). However my absolute favourite look was a fur-trimmed jacket worn by Manon Leloup (centre), conclusive proof of the designer’s new direction.
