New York - RTW AW13 - Victoria Beckham

City: New York
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Autumn/Winter 2013
Show: Victoria Beckham

A few short years ago, Victoria Beckham was best known as a footballer’s wife (albeit a hard-working one) and the artist formerly/occasionally known as Posh Spice. But no more. Since her debut at New York Fashion Week in 2008, at the Waldorf Astoria no less, Mrs Beckham has worked tirelessly to legitimise herself in the eyes of the fashion world and her Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, with its razor-sharp tailoring and heritage fabrics, was yet another success story. Compared to previous VB outings Autumn/Winter 2013 placed more emphasis on structured, wearable separates than it did on the Victoria Beckham signature - the power dress. The checked topcoat on Tilda Lindstam (centre left) was about as dressed down as the collection got, but given Victoria Beckham’s usual focus on power dressing it still came as a rather carefree surprise. Autumn/Winter 2013 also saw the Victoria Beckham team experimenting with knitwear, and slinky sweaters such as that worn by Marine Deleeuw (top right) came as a welcome change from all the bulky PETA-baiting furs seen at numerous other New York shows. Yet where there was experimentation and growth there was also a healthy dose of the rigour we have come to expect from Mrs Beckham - see the dove grey power dress sported by Magdalena Frackowiak (centre), expertly accessorised with one of Beckham’s now-signature structured tote bags. All that hard work may finally have paid off, but for the Victoria Beckham brand the fun is only just beginning.
