New York - RTW AW13 - Alexander Wang

City: New York
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Autumn/Winter 2013
Show: Alexander Wang

Just when you thought that furry paws were best left to grizzly bears, along comes Alexander Wang, perennially ahead of the curve, to change your perception. I make a point of mentioning Wang’s god-given foresight because, believe it or not, the furry boxing gloves worn by Juliana Schurig (top left) and Vanessa Axente (bottom left) have sparked something of a gantier revolution for Autumn/Winter 2013 - countless other designers have since sent fuzzy-handed models down their (hopefully air-conditioned) runways. Furry gloves aside, this collection was classic Alexander Wang, starring a downtown-ready palette of black, grey and silver, with an obvious focus on outerwear. Wang has a knack for cutting outsized coats that are both effortlessly cool and shamelessly cosy, with Jamie Bochert (centre) showcasing a mohair-lined leather coat that, while undeniably stylish, was also the choice of a girl ready to do battle with the elements. Evening-wise, dresses such as that worn by Maria Bradley (bottom centre) were a reminder of last season’s deconstructed symmetry. Now to see what the talented twenty-nine-year-old Wang will do at Balenciaga…
