New York - RTW AW13 - Proenza Schouler

City: New York
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Autumn/Winter 2013
Show: Proenza Schouler

Remember Proenza Schouler Spring/Summer 2013, with its Tumblr-inspired prints and sheer cacophony of colour? You do? Well, forget about it, because for Autumn/Winter 2013 Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have made about as dramatic a U-turn as possible while still of course being the Proenza Schouler we all know and love. The boys have evidently swapped collage for couture as their latest collection had a resolutely high-end feel; rounded sleeves such as those seen on Russian supermodel Sasha Pivovarova (centre) lifted jackets from the street to the stratosphere, while a knee-grazing coat sported by newcomer Sam Rollinson (bottom centre) exuded an uptown polish not normally associated with the Proenza Schouler girl. Might it be that the new Madison Avenue headquarters are rubbing off on Jack and Lazaro? Possibly. And though colour was taken down several notches from last season, texture most certainly was not - the Proenza boys are after all known for their innovative use of textiles - with feathers making an uncommonly tasteful appearance, showcased by Monika Sawicka (centre left). Proenza Schouler is one of my favourite designer brands, certainly my favourite showing out of New York right now, so perhaps Iā€™m biased, but this was truly one of Autumn/Winter 2013ā€™s strongest offerings.
