New York - RTW AW13 - Marc Jacobs

City: New York
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Autumn/Winter 2013
Show: Marc Jacobs

When Ruby Jean Wilson strutted out onto the catwalk at Marc Jacobs last season, my first thought, and likely everyone’s first thought, was Edie Sedgwick! This time round, for Autumn/Winter 2013, it was Joan Jett! Followed by a no, wait, not quite. For while the founding member of The Runaways was certainly of inspiration to the hair and make-up team - ‘we looked at a lot of reference pictures of Marianne Faithfull and Joan Jett,’ famed make-up artist François Nars said backstage - the clothes themselves told rather a different story. First off, for a cold-weather collection there was an alarming lack of trousers on display at Marc Jacobs Autumn/Winter 2013, with the likes of Aymeline Valade (top left) wearing styles that seemed to be a continuation of spring’s penchant for short-shorts. And though some dresses were full-length they were also dangerously sheer, as Marc Jacobs mainstay Jamie Bochert (top centre) so ably demonstrates. Sheerness and short-shorts notwithstanding, Marc Jacobs Autumn/Winter 2013 was actually a very wearable collection, replete with some frankly gorgeous coats - my favourites being those worn by Japanese newcomer Chiharu Okunugi (top right) and Finnish beauty Kirsi Pyrhonen (bottom left).
