BCBG Max Azria is typically a minimal and monochromatic affair, with sharp lines and contrasts prevailing, and while all of this was in evidence at the Spring/Summer 2013 show there was also a softness to the shapes, a softness not often seen at BCBG. Dresses had a more diaphanous look, a change from the body-con constructs usually favoured by the Azrias, and the requisite black and white palette was supercharged with what I am going to call electric salmon, a vibrant pink-peach which doesn’t so much demand attention as monopolise it. BCBG wasn’t all spring/summer softness, however, and autumn/winter’s leather fetish is clearly here to stay - harnesses, lapels, even pencil skirts and culottes, all of them made from supple, sophisticated leather. My favourite looks were a lace and leather dress worn by Erjona Ala (above, centre); a juicy floor-length dress worn by Kate King (above, right) and a floaty white gown worn by model du jour Kati Nescher (above, left).
