New York - RTW SS13 - Calvin Klein Collection

City: New York
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Spring/Summer 2013
Show: Calvin Klein Collection

In keeping with the signature Calvin Klein aesthetic, current creative director Francisco Costa can always be relied upon to deliver expertly cut pieces in luxe, rarefied fabrics. While Spring/Summer 2013 was no exception to his modus operandi, there was certainly a more sensuous, beguiling feel to the creations that he sent down the runway in New York City. The colour palette was reliably minimal, with blacks and greys predominating, of course, while softer shades of putty and ivory brought the label safely into springtime. Following on from autumn’s Lisbeth Salander-esque harshness, all blunt bangs and black-on-black, Costa introduced a fluidity and softness in his garments which was complemented beautifully by some lighter-than-air coiffure. It was all really rather sexy too, but a soft and sensual kind of sexy, not the leather-clad dominatrix kind. Highlights included Kati Nescher’s smart off-the-shoulder creation (bottom right), Ava Smith’s exquisite open-knit shift (bottom centre), plus the subtly erotic opening and closing looks, both worn by newcomer Antonina Vasylchenko (top centre).
