New York - RTW SS13 - Marc Jacobs

City: New York
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Spring/Summer 2013
Show: Marc Jacobs

The name’s Sedgwick, Edie Sedgwick. At least this is what the clothes, not to mention the hair and make-up, were saying at Marc Jacobs’ Spring/Summer 2013 show last week. The busiest man in fashion pulled yet another sartorial one-eighty with his latest womenswear collection, forsaking Autumn/Winter 2012’s Dr. Seuss-inspired silhouettes in favour of something slinkier and far more streamlined. The pixie-like Ruby Jean Wilson opened the show in equally tiny shorts (top left), looking every inch the latter-day Factory Girl, while the likes of Eliza Cummings (bottom right) and Irina Lazareanu (centre left) sashayed down the catwalk in graphic monochrome separates, the former evoking a sexed-up Beetlejuice in vertical stripes. After last season’s riot of colour and texture Mr Jacobs has presented a rather more sedate colour palette for spring, with subtle flickers of taupe and mink breaking up a mostly monochromatic display. Along with Eliza’s super cool coat my favourite looks are Vanessa Axente’s horizontal striped sequins (bottom left) and Mackenzie Drazan’s slinky Art Deco stripes (top centre). Groovy.
