New York - RTW SS13 - Oscar de la Renta
City: New York
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Spring/Summer 2013
Show: Oscar de la Renta
In theory, I shouldn’t be an Oscar de la Renta girl, what with all the pencil skirts and broderie anglaise and the dressing of political wives including, shiver, Ann Romney. However, as is the case with Elie Saab, while ODLR may not reflect what I myself am most comfortable in on a day-to-day basis, the Dominican-born designer certainly does know how to tug on my heartstrings. Truly. Oscar de la Renta has long been synonymous with ladylike polish, and his collections are never anything less than breathtakingly beautiful. His latest offering was not without its surprises, however, such as sometime spokesmodel Karlie Kloss opening the show in red latex (top centre), and Caroline Brasch Nielsen, the tomboyish young Dane, sporting an oddly minimal ivory trouser suit (bottom left). Erjona Ala’s 3D florals were a real standout also (centre right). Quintessential ODLR elegance was still evident, however, with Frida Gustavsson’s nautical stripes (top right) and Andreea Diaconu’s applique florals (bottom centre) offering alternative takes on the classic de la Renta ballgown. Please excuse me while I go and drool elsewhere…
