Paris - RTW SS13 - Miu Miu

City: Paris
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Spring/Summer 2013
Show: Miu Miu

It isn’t often that a diffusion show manages to outdo the designer’s mainline collection. But then Miu Miu, little sister to Prada, is not your average diffusion line. It has a cult-like following all of its own. Prada Spring/Summer 2013 was, for me, a disappointing and somewhat unpalatable affair, but Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2013 closed Paris Fashion Week with real panache, showcasing many of the styles that Miu Miu and Ms Prada herself have become famous for. Models marched down the runway looking like more empowered versions of Hitchcock heroines - get a load of those cropped tops and gauntlets, yikes! - while blunt fringes and kohl-lined eyes added a punk vibe to the proceedings. A fierce Raquel Zimmermann opened the show in a voluminous coat (centre right), while the flame-haired model/mother/musician phenomenon that is Karen Elson (bottom right) flew in to Paris just to close the show. Marte Mei van Haaster’s long chambray topcoat was a simple but striking look (centre), something I would wear in a heartbeat, while Canadian model Meghan Collison looked ravishing in printed green silk contrasted with red leather gloves (bottom left). The fur stoles seemed a tad jarring at first, but worn over the models’ right shoulders instead of round the elbows they gave Spring/Summer 2013 a certain devil-may-care allure.
