Paris - RTW SS13 - Chloé

City: Paris
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Spring/Summer 2013
Show: Chloé

Chloé is having a real moment right now, not just in the fashion world but beyond it too. With the recent opening of the Attitudes exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, planned to coincide with the house’s sixtieth birthday, the Chloé brand has never been more powerful. Current - and still relatively new - creative director Clare Waight Keller, fresh from a successful stint at Pringle of Scotland, has imbued the quintessentially French house with ease and wearability. After Autumn/Winter 2012 and its superb outerwear (those capes, suh-woon) Spring/Summer 2013 featured a lighter, summer-in-the-1960s kind of silhouette. The colour palette was classic Chloé, a study in subtlety with unfettered white being the order of the day, while the shapes and proportions were more obviously girly than usual. Some of the dresses, such as those worn by Tilda Lindstam (bottom centre) and Elena Bartels (centre), erred on the side of tweeness, owing to their extravagant frills, however there was another trademark Chloé spareness going on to prevent the collection from sliding into saccharin territory. Bette Franke’s light and exquisitely cut layers (centre right) were, for me, the highlight of the collection, while Tilda Lindstam’s first look (top right) was pared-down perfection. I sincerely hope I can squeeze in a trip to Paris before the Attitudes exhibit closes on November 18th.
