Paris - RTW SS13 - Nina Ricci

City: Paris
Season: Ready-To-Wear, Spring/Summer 2013
Show: Nina Ricci

As a British designer heading up a fabled French fashion house, Peter Copping is obliged to incorporate a certain sense of la parisienne into his ready-to-wear collections at Nina Ricci. But for Spring/Summer 2013 Copping was evidently keen to explore more uncharted territory, with leather and netting making an unforeseen appearance alongside the brand’s usual lighter-than-air fabrics. Deviating significantly from the coquettish young Parisian look we have come to expect, Copping presented a stronger, fiercer woman this past fashion week. Black predominated, quite unusual for a spring collection, while degradé and fringing were also used heavily throughout. Open-knit sweaters and fishnet stockings stamped the collection with sophisticated sex appeal, as Marine Deleeuw’s midnight blue separates show (centre right), while Jacquelyn Jablonski’s harness detailing (bottom centre) was almost imperceptible against a pink silk skirt. Dramatic black eye make-up complemented Spring/Summer 2013’s striking aesthetic, while dresses such as that worn by Cora Emmanuel (top centre) were more classic Nina Ricci than anything else. Argentinian tomboy Melissa Stasiuk (centre left) sported my favourite look of the bunch, while current campaign star Kati Nescher wore a risqué sheer dress (bottom right).
